Russia-Ukraine War: A Deep Dive into the Conflict That Shook the World

On 24 February 2022, the Russia-Ukraine war began with a massive attack from Russia. This was not just the conflict between the two countries, but it also shocked the whole world.

Why did Russia attack Ukraine?

In 2014, Russia occupied the Ukrainian part, Crimea. Since then, there have been minor fights between Russia and Ukraine. But in 2022, Russia launched a big and direct attack on Ukraine.

What Russia Wants From Ukraine?

Russia was afraid that Ukraine was joining the US and European countries. Russia did not want Ukraine to join NATO (a security organization). Therefore, Russia said that it was taking this step for its security.

What was Ukraine’s Response?

Well, Ukraine not only demonstrated courage and determination, but the citizens of Ukraine also took up the weapons to save their country from Russia’s attack. The entire country fought unitedly under the leadership of President Volodymyr Zelensky, which gave Ukraine global support.

What Do People in Scotland Think?

Scotland has always cared about fairness and human rights. Many people here support Ukraine and are helping refugees. Local charities and volunteers are working hard to help people and tell others about how the war is affecting everyone. This shows Scotland’s strong sense of community and care for others.

How does it affect the UK (United Kingdom) Economy?

1. Inflation and gas crisis

Prices of gas and electricity increased a lot in the UK. The citizens there had to spend more on heating in winter.

2. Refugee Support

The UK has given help and homes to thousands of refugees. This has increased both the responsibility and expenditure of the government.

3. Economic Pressure

The UK Government has spent millions of pounds to help Ukraine during the war, which indirectly puts the burden on the taxpayers.

4. Political Debate

This war even sparked debate in UK politics. Some supported it in government, while a few advocated it “as an attempt to divert attention from the UK’s domestic problems.”

My Opinion

I believe it is not just the fight between Russia and Ukraine. This is a battle of freedom versus pressure. Support from a nation like the United Kingdom was necessary because if we remained silent today, tomorrow it could be our turn.

This has taught us that in geopolitics, not just power but humanity is also important. Ukrainian people have fought bravely, which will be remembered in history.

In my opinion, the United Kingdom should focus on stronger diplomacy to prevent such conflicts in the future.

The Russia-Ukraine conflict has shown us how much damage war can cause even today. It affected millions of people’s lives, numerous countries’ economies were hampered, and it forced the whole world to think about this.

Now it needs to think about peace. Russia and Ukraine should find a solution together. The world should also try to avoid such conflicts so that no kid has to live in fear of war again.
